Career.. Now what is that ??

An year in the corporate gone by...
Lets talk about an individual who is in the similar stage... what he thinks... what he aspires for....
Mr. Karmakar Kapil is a PG in Marketing. He has completed 1 year of traineeship in a Manufacturing company.. Now he starts to think about his career more seriously. The initial thoughts are, as expected, vague and confusing. He inspite of thinking so deeply regarding the subject, is not able to figure out what exactly he wants out of his professional life.
Let us start with his current mindset.
1. He having completed some good time in this company, has understood how seriously is career of new comers taken by the top management. So, he knows what to expect in the coming time (whatever short or long it may be) in the company.
The expectation is that he will get stuck (or so to say labeled to) to one function for 2-3 years, with very less aspects of his personal interests taken into account for his own career.
2. His immediate superior is very kind in terms of giving him opportunity to speak out his mind regarding his career aspirations and interests. But, having told him also all that he had in his mind, he really doesn't know how much of that will be actually taken into account while giving him opportunities for advancement.
3. Since, this is getting murkier... he decided to talk to few of his friends... again they could not be of much help in his decision but certainly helped in understanding how to go about getting there !!

These are the things he could think of with his all the last year's experience... now he is planning to talk to his superior again with more specifics and then decide what needs to be done.

In the next post we will see what exactly happened during the meeting....
Well I know what happened... i guess everyone knows :)

Asia Cup: We should call it Subcontinent Cup

Another Asia Cup is running and this time India & SL will fight it out for the prestigious (??) Asia Cup. Asia Cup started way back in 1984 after the formation of Asian Cricket Council in 1983. Asia Cup has happened every 2 years except for 3 times in 1986 (India SL issue), 1993 (Indo-Pak Political Problem) and 2000. One interesting fact about Asia Cup is that SL has featured in all the finale of the Asia Cup !!! The history is repeated as they are again in the finals.
I think if we are calling the cup "Asia Cup" then this should be used as a platform for giving chance to teams from across the continent to participate at the highest level and get good experience. The format could be like big teams (India, Pak & SL) will be in different groups with other teams in their group (say 3 each). Now, have round robin matches in each group then play top 3 (which most often in coming 10-15 years be the big 3 only) for the Asia Cup or something like qualifiers for Asia Cup in which other teams participate to feature in the Asia Cup.
With the advent of 20-20 cricket 50 overs matches are slowly losing their charm (even if someone accepts or no). We need to find ways to make the game (ODI) more interesting and fast. Asia Cup for most is not that important except for India Pak match. Authorities its' time for something more for the public....

Re-entry !!!

Woww... I had forgotten that i had once thought positively about writing a blog. Suddenly came to my mind and here i am. Boss not in office (gone for the AGM), so i am a lot freer than usual. i will update regarding my current status.
I have completed 1 year with RPG Group & KEC International Ltd. The time has gone by quite smoothly. I had mixed experiences with the Talent Acquisition team with whom i worked for 10 months. Made good friends at Worli office (Ceat Mahal).
these days m sitting in Vikhroli office, and reporting to GM Employee Relations. The exposure i believe would be good with my superior very open to give feedback and also helps in resolving issues. Gives opportunities to try new things.

In the middle of Futbol World Cup and I don't talk about it... aisa nahi ho sakta...
I am having gala time watching the Fifa WC. My favorite is Spain, they lost their first match against Switzerland... arrgghhh. but yesterday's match was a memorable one. spain won 2-0 against Honduras. spain should have won 6-0/7-0 but they did not materialize good chances. Torres looked out of sorts with missing atmost 4-5 good chances. David Villa was the man of the match for me and apart from his missing the Penalty he played superbly...

I am hoping to see a Spain-Argentina or Spain-Germany finale. Lets keep our fingers crossed... may iniesta get going and fernando torres and david villa keep shooting goals for Spain.. Amen !!!
